From chris.peel at ieee.org Tue Jul 7 12:42:58 2015 From: chris.peel at ieee.org (Christian Peel) Date: Mon, 6 Jul 2015 20:42:58 -0700 Subject: [Xkeymacs-users-en:26] Windows 7: xkeymacs not disabling as 'properties' requested Message-ID: I've used Xkeymacs for many years, and would like to use it at my new job with a Windows 7 machine. It was working for some time, but recently it stopped. I tried renaming or even deleting the following registry entry as described in the FAQ (for when xkeymacs stops obeying 'Properties'), without luck so far: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Oishi\XKeymacs2 I guess that most people today will either use a Mac, or use Linux, or if they're on Windows they will use OS X or linux via a virtual machine. These are attractive options, but I'd like to try to get Xkeymacs working. Any suggestions for debugging this? I've tried several variations on the registry tricks above, including rebooting, without luck so far. thanks! -- chris.peel at ieee.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I'll try to give sufficient details about my problem this time. I tried both Xkeymacs version 347 and 348. Using the 'Properties' dialog box of Xkeymacs, I have it set up to be enabled in my browser (Chrome) and in MS Word, and to be disabled in Matlab. The properties behaved as expected a week ago (when I was using Matlab Xkeymacs was disabled, and when I switched to Chrome or Word it was enabled). Then about a week ago I did something (not certain what) and now Xkeymacs is always enabled, no matter which program I'm using. So even though I have used Xkeymacs properties to disable Xkeymacs when using MAtlab, it is still enabled. I tried to modify the registry as specified in the FAQ. I tried removing some of the programs that I thought might interfere, and tried removing and re-installing Xkeymacs. I tried it with most other programs not running, and rebooting. I've tried 'reseting' XKeymacs using the menu option; nothing seems to help. At present I just manually disable (using the pop-up menu) it when I'm mostly working in Matlab, and manually enable it when I'm working in Word or Chrome. Any suggestions would be welcome! I guess you installed the 64-bit version of Matlab. XKeymacs version 348 (and 347) can't reflect the properties on 64-bit applications. If my guess is right, you can solve the problem by installing the 32-bit version of Matlab. If you continue to use the 64-bit version, please try xkeymacs-110830: the latest snapshot version. It supports 64-bit applications. It does appear to be something related to 64-bit applications, since the xkeymacs-110830 binary does indeed appear to be working. After rebooting xkeymacs again works. I do still have some odd behavior when switching between some applications. For example, even though I have the properties set up to disable xkeymacs on my cygwin emacs, the icon does show it being activated. Nevertheless, it does seem to be disabled and to work correctly. If I get a specific problem, I'll send another email. Thanks again!
