Radio jockey is a very simple program you can use
to broadcast Internet radio in real-time. It is
free software, it should work well with all of the
sound applications on Linux, and it uses the
GStreamer multimedia framework and PulseAudio
sound server.

Marlin is a sample editor using GStreamer for
audio IO and GNOME for its interface. It has basic
editing features such as Cut/Copy/Paste, Paste as
New, Paste mix, delete selection, crop selection,
Insert Silence, and Swap Channels.

ripx is a script designed to make ripping CDs as easy as possible. It features CDDB lookup, ID3 tag editing prior to ripping, playlist file generation, album directory creation, and generally a nicer interface than many similar tools. By default, ripx uses cdparanoia to extract audio from CDs and lame to encode the audio to MP3 format at the quality of your choice. If you wish to use alternative applications for extraction or encoding, modifying ripx to handle these should be fairly painless.

splitmastream reads an MPEG audio stream from
stdin, writes a copy of it to a file named
YYYYMMDD.HH-streamname.mp3, and then writes the
stream to stdout. You can think of it as a version
of "tee" for hour-long chunks of MPEG audio.
Files are switched on every hour at a frame
boundary so that every file should be playable
without noise at the beginning or end.
splitmastream is useful for making an archive of
an MPEG stream which is, for example, coming from
an encoder and going to an icecast transmitter.

ecasound.el is an interface to ecasound from within Emacs. It allows
you to use an inferior ecasound process in an comint-derived mode. It
features context-sensitive completion and wizards for adding
chainoperators and the like. It allows you to write ECI-based
applications in Elisp.

GStreamripperX us a GTK+ GUI for Streamripper. It uses a
notebook style layout and can load an IP from a .pls file and
save the current IPs to a file for later use.

Maudio is a simple audio mirroring device (a sort of audio
pipe). Unlike a filesystem pipe, maudio behaves as a hardware
soundcard. In particular, after installation of the driver, you get
two audio-like devices (usually /dev/dsp0 and /dev/dsp1) which are
connected to each other. Everything sent to the first DSP will appear
as sound data on the second DSP and vice versa.

SCX Tools is a set of utilities for Skype for
Linux. It currently includes a call recorder.

OZradio is a Linux GUI application that provides a CD
player, CD ripper, Ogg file player, playlist editor, and mixer, and supports video4linux radio cards if installed.
CD info, including track and artist information, is retrieved from freedb using HTTP and stored locally. The CD player, ripper, and Ogg file player display this CD/file information. The CD ripper will put the information into the Ogg files. Video4Linux compatable radio cards are supported if installed, with the ability to save up to 10
preset stations, volume control, a mute button,
automatic frequency scanning, on-demand recording
and replay of radio, and programmable recording.

sifolux allows you to download streams and schedule the downloads easily. If a stream stops for some reason, the download will continue when the stream is available again.

Quick Record is a GNOME panel applet for one-click recording of music/speech. An optional prerecord buffer enables spontaneous recording without losing any music while focusing and clicking the applet.

XMMS DVB Input Plugin is a plugin for XMMS for users
with a DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcast/Satellite) PCI
adapter supported by the driver from LinuxTV to
receive and record audio streams from this adapter.
The incoming MPEG-1 layer II audio data is
decompressed and fed to XMMS which can then in turn
process it any way it pleases. At the same time the
plugin can optionally write the original MPEG stream to
file for archiving or further processing at a later time.

Recordings can be automatically split either by predefined intervals or whenever the energy level drops below a configurable amount for an (also configurable) duration.

strec is a wrapper for VSound, LAME, and Real
Player. It allows you to record streams as MP3.

Rotter is a transmission recording and audio
logger for JACK. It was designed for use by radio
stations, who are legally required to keep a
recording of all their output. Rotter runs
continuously, writing to a new file every hour.

The FunkyMD Suite aims to provide tools for
titling, editing, recording and remote
controlling MiniDiscs using a portable MiniDisc
recorder such as the Sony MZR-900 and a self-
made interface for the parallel port.
