yencode is an encoder, decoder, and posting package for the popular Usenet yEnc encoding format. It features the ability to encode single or multipart archives, a smart decoder which can decode multiple files (including files specified out of order or with nonsense filenames), an optional scan mode with recursion, and an easy to use Usenet posting utility. It is fully compliant with the yEnc specifications.

zfec is a fast, portable, and programmable
implementation of erasure coding. It includes a C
library, a Python library, and a command-line
tool. Erasure coding is also known as "forward
error correction", which is the generation of
redundant blocks of information such that if some
blocks are lost then the original data can be
recovered from the remaining blocks. The RAID-5
algorithm is an erasure code, but while RAID-5 can
recover from the loss of any one element, zfec can
be parameterized to choose in advance the number
of elements whose loss it can tolerate.

Papercut is a multi-threaded NNTP server written in Python. Its main objective is to integrate existing Web-based message board software (Phorum is one of the supported ones) with a Usenet front-end. However, its extensibility enables developers to write their own containers for the storage of the Usenet articles (messages). That means that the code is extensible enough that you could write new containers to integrate the news server with other Web message board projects or even other ways to store the messages.

The Usenet Binary Harvester (ubh) is a Perl console application which automatically discovers, downloads, and decodes single-part and multi-part Usenet binaries. It automatically assembles multi-part binaries, provides searching via Perl regular expression syntax, and provides a pre-selection capability whereby the user can interactively choose which binaries to download. Ubh uses a standard .newsrc file to control which groups to process, and uses the .newsrc to keep track of articles already processed. It also handles uuencoded binaries, MIME attachments, and yEnc encoded binaries.

hellanzb is an application that retrieves and
processes NZB files and makes obtaining files from
Usenet as hands-free as possible. Once fully
installed, all that is required is moving an NZB
file to the queue directory. Downloading,
par-checking, and un-raring is done automatically
by the program.

jAugment is a JINI-based, network-aware framework and set of initial applications for wearable computers and other computers with uncommon input/output-devices. It supports user interfaces from text-only to 3D.

Remote HellaNZB GUI is a small GTK+ application to
control your HellaNZB daemon. It's well integrated
into your desktop. In a few clicks, you can manage
your remote (or local) queue: add NZB files from
your computer or from their newzbin.com ID, set
priorities, see the progress of your downloads,
etc. Unlike other similar projects, this one can
truly add NZB files from your computer to your
remote daemon; to do so, it copies them through
SSH. For Remote HellaNZB GUI to work you need a
running HellaNZB daemon; it does not configure it
for you.
