Description du projet

GNU Mailutils is a rich and powerful protocol-independent mail framework. It contains a series of useful mail libraries, clients, and servers. These are the primary mail utilities for the GNU system. The central library is capable of handling electronic mail in various mailbox formats and protocols, both local and remote. Specifically, this project contains a POP3 server, an IMAP4 server, and a Sieve mail filter. It also provides a POSIX "mailx" client and a collection of other handy tools.

The mailbox library now supports the "maildir" format and the autodetection of local folder formats ("local" is a format of mail folder that uses local disk as its storage medium). The new program "movemail" has been added, which moves email from the user maildrop (remote or local) to the local file. This release considerably improves debugging diagnostics in Sieve filter and adds new extension tests: spamd (an interface to SpamAssassin daemon), list, and timestamp. A bug that prevented SASL from working over a TLS-encrypted channel in imap4d has been fixed.

Many bugfixes and improvements have been made. The
library has been split into the core library (libmailbox),
and the protocol implementation libraries, which are
named as libmu_$PROTO. For example, the library for
MBOX mailbox formats is libmu_mbox.so. The support
for TLS protocol has been added to libmu_imap.so and
libmu_pop.so. This means that you can now use TLS with
every client program. There are various fixes and
improvements in MH in order to interoperate better with
MH-E. A new configuration file variable "mailx" enables
the mailx compatibility mode in "mail".
