+ NVDAJP Release Notes +

Release by NVDA Japanese Team (nvdajp), based on NVDA 2012.2.1 from nvda-project.org.

This release is Japanese localization of the NVDA open-source screen reader for Windows.

++ Changes from original NVDA ++

+++ Japanese Keyboard +++

- CapsLock key of Japanese keyboard cannot be used as NVDA modifier key. This is the limitation of the Windows device driver.
- NonConvert key of Japanese keyboard can be used as NVDA modifier key.
- Japanese translations added for Input Help Mode: "IME Non convert", "IME Convert", "Pause".
-

+++ Input Method +++

- Japanese input method editor (IME) support (for 32bit/64bit environment) is added. Some applicaitions are not fully supported.
- Key events of enabling or disabling IME are reporeted in Japanese message.
- Typing within composition window is reported.
- After pressing space bar (as IME conversion command), first candidate is reported using character description table.
- Pressing space bar (as candidate selection command), selected candidate is also reported.
- Pressing enter key (as IME session end command), the result string is reported.
- Input method is reported, even if 'Speak Typed Characters' setting is disabled.
-

Keyboard Settings:

- Support IME: If enabled, IME is supported. When changing, the setting must be saved and NVDA must be restarted.
- Beep if IME mode is changed: If enabled, key events of enabling or disabling IME are reported with beep.
- Reading at IME session end: If enabled, result string is reported at IME session end.
- Discriminant reading: If enabled, candidate is reported using character description table.
- Phonetic representation reading: If enabled, Kana characters are reported using phonetic representation.
-

For example, Kana characters 'ta' 'su' 'ke' 'ru' are converted to Kanji character 'help' and Kana Characters 'ke' 'ru'.

- Kanji 'help' is reported as 'suke' (spelling output) or 'tasukeru no jo' (discriminant reading output).
- Kana 'ke' is reported as 'ke' (spelling output) or 'keshiki no ke' (phonetic output).
- Kana 'ru' is reported as 'ru' (spelling output) or 'rusuban no ru' (phonetic output).
-

Note that 'tasukeru' is the meaning of Kanji character 'help', and 'keshiki' (scenery) or 'rusuban' (house keeping) are intelligible words to show the character 'ke' or 'ru'.

In this case, the options work as follows:

- Discriminant off + Phonetic off : 'suke' 'ke' 'ru'
- Discriminant on + Phonetic off : 'tasukeru no jo' 'ke' 'ru'
- Discriminant on + Phonetic on : 'tasukeru no jo' 'keshiki no ke' 'rusuban no ru'
-

+++ Character Desription +++

- Japanese default table for character description is updated. The new table will be merged to the NV Access version.
- Character description of nvdajp can be customized. If characterDescriptions-(locale).dic file is found in userConfig file, it supersedes built-in dictionary.
-
