I can see reason for this: I am launching the new version off the DMG file so it can't load the correct site-start.el file! I have in .emacs (load "/Applications/EmacsJCVS.app/Contents/Resources/share/emacs/ 22.0.50/site-lisp/site-start.el") which is correct when launched from its 'installation place' -- but when trying out the new it's part of the old! So first the old file is loaded, then an internal mechanism loads the new Carbon Emacs files, then it's again my .emacs: Loading /Applications/EmacsJCVS.app/Contents/Resources/share/ emacs/22.0.50/site-lisp/site-start.el (source)... I don't think it's a gain to load these files without really needing them, or when preferring one's own versions. I did not look into carbon-emacs- japanese-init.el, but I presume this file only needs to be loaded for a Japanese working environment, based on the value of LC_ALL.
