xfontselector is a program that enables easy
selection of the most suitable font in X window.
It allows you to choose several fonts and compare
how they look line-by-line.

mftrace is a small Python program that lets you trace a TeX bitmap font into a PFA or PFB font (A PostScript Type1 Scalable Font) or TTF (TrueType) font.

Font Industry (字体工业)
makes big charset font creation easier. The
program converts a scanned in grid sheet,
containing a lot of glyphs, into a bitmap font.
The glyphs will be automatically indexed by
Unicode or with a user-selected charset order. The
bitmap font can then be converted to an outline
font like TTF or OpenType font.

mknfonts doesn't completely automate the process
of creating nfont packages, but it can do most of
the bulk work for you. This works with .ttf, .pfa,
.pfb, .afm, and most formats for which FreeType
can handle and provide PostScript names.

Unicode Font Info is a font inspection tool
designed for Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar. It includes
full support for Unicode 3.2 allowing you to
easily navigate huge fonts with tens of thousands
of supported glyphs representing most of the
languages and scripts used in the world.

SlackGreek is a free tool for supporting the Greek
language in Slackware. It enables Greek for both
the console and X. It includes the freetype fonts
from http://graphis.hellug.gr, and it has the
ability to download some Windows-based freetype
fonts.

Alphabet Soup is a project which attempts to determine a number of things about the shapes of letters in several different writing systems. First, it hypothesizes a set of basic building blocks that all letters are built up from. Second, it hypothesizes a set of rules, a grammar or syntax, which defines how those pieces combine to make different letters. It can generate individual letters, randomize letters in an input string to create weird but readable text, or generate random strings of symbols.

gbdfed is a GTK+-based BDF font editor. Multiple
fonts can be loaded from the command line.
Multiple fonts can be open at the same time.
Cutting and pasting glyphs between fonts, font
name and property editing, and built-in online
help. It imports PK/GF, HBF, PSF, CP, Linux FNT,
VFONT, OpenType/TrueType, and some FON/FNT fonts.
It can export PSF2 fonts.

chessdgm.rb converts a standard chess postion file
(in the "fen" format) into a word processor
diagram. This is a rewrite in Ruby of a C program
(chessdgm), with support for more fonts. The fonts
have been included in the tarball with their
documentation, and are free for non-commercial
use, but not GPL.

Fluxfont is a specialized tool that attempts to tackle the privacy concerns raised by the possibility to collect information about the fonts installed on a system. Such information can be used to uniquely identify a system. With Fluxfonts, new fonts are randomly created and removed to prevent the same fingerprint from being recreated.

Ormaxx Fonts is a collection of ISO 8859-1 and ISO 8859-15 fonts to use in an xterm.

Python-Fontconfig is a Python wrapper around the Fontconfig library. It provides a pythonic interface thanks to Cython.
