The HCS Open Source Project is a stand-alone home
automation control system which consists of
hardware (main controllers and remote networked
controllers) and software to monitor and control
various devices around your house. The current
plans support using wired and wireless X10
modules, as well as analog, digital, and voice
input and output. Once the HCS is programmed, the
use of a PC is not required.

MoCo is a system that monitors and controls SCADA points, such as temperature, HVAC, power, lighting, sprinkler systems, and more. It has industrial capabilities, but is scalable from very small home systems to enterprise, world-wide ones. It works with inexpensive I/O bridges (including X10, Insteon, and 1-wire) from a number of manufacturers. It has sophisticated history logging and diverse control capabilities, as well as a 117-page implementation manual.

k8055 is a sample program to use the Velleman
K8055 interface board on Linux. The USB K8055
interface board has 5 digital input channels, 8
digital output channels, two analogue inputs, and
two analogue outputs with 8 bit resolution. This
software lets you manage this board on Linux.

ERF Computer Vision adds support for computer
vision libraries in the Experimental Robotics
Framework (ERF).

YASP is a simple and open protocol for building networks with small microcontrollers. It is designed to have a small footprint for easy implementation with minimal hardware resources, but without sacrifice advanced features and future growth. The protocol scalability is implemented using variable length fields. The physical layer use the NRZ encoding as in RS-232, but using dominant and recessive bus states to provide a reliable way to detect collisions.

PHP-BottleRocket/SOSDG is a simple PHP script that
can be used to control X10 home automation devices
such as lamps and appliances through a Web browser.

Hocuspocus is a small and extensible Web server for controlling key Linux applications via a Web server. This means you can adjust things like system volume from any browser, including a WiFi enabled PDA such as the iPhone. Multiple such servers can be controlled via a single service manager, enabling whole home remote control.

nad_daemon is a daemon used to remote control NAD amplifiers over RS232. It will accept commands from the network and send them to the amplifier. It also includes a simple client. It has only been tested on the C355bee, but it should work with other amplifiers. Certain receivers from NAD will also be remote controllable in this fashion, but the more fancy features are not yet implemented.

MediaRC is a remote control program intended for
controlling various media devices found in a home
theater or with a PVR like MythTV. It is an
extendable program for which new drivers can
easily be added. MediaRC currently can control IR
devices through LIRC, the sound levels through
ALSA, and serial devices like a TV.

Javacelot is a Java utility for communicating with
an Adicon Ocelot over the serial port. It uses
Keane Jarvi's RXTX utility for raw serial port
I/O, Jakarta's Log4J for logging, and Ant for
building. Javacelot mainly adds a friendly API for
triggering and responding to X10, infrared, and
other Ocelot signals. It's not an application in
itself, but a tool to facilitate the creation of
Java-based home automation applications,
especially heavily threaded Web-based applications.

LightwaveRF is a Ruby gem which interfaces with LightwaveRF home automation devices. It includes a commandline interface.

FLTK burncd GUI frontend is a very simple GUI for
burning ISO images created by mkisofs or other
software. It uses burncd as a write program.
Currently, it can only write data images in single
or multisession mode.

pyWebSMS is a program which lets you send SMS
through the Internet without opening a Web
browser. You can send multiple SMS, save your
contacts, view the history, and much more. It's
completely modular, so you can add or remove
providers for sending SMS. You can make your own
module for your provider if one doesn't exists yet
by programming it in Python.

WIRN is a professional stored program control. It is optimized for heat control, but you can control whatever you want. It is a multitasking system using FreeRTOS.org on Atmel AT32UC3A1512, and has an API for simple sensor/actor interaction that makes it modular and simple to extend. Also included is a triac control over AVR ATtiny2313 and a 1Wire Interface. You can extend it via software: implement your own control loop with some lines of C code. You don't need a compiler; upload your code and get a binary back. Flash this binary over USB and go. It also has 3 ports to plug in your own hardware.

Mobi is general purpose Bluetooth remote control
software which exploits the SonyEricsson accessory
interface. It searches for phones and, if found,
loads a configurable menu into the phone which
allows you to perform custom actions on the
connected computer, such as requesting status
information or playing music.
